I dated a counselor who was the craziest woman I ever met. I always wondered what advice she gave people.

I saw her 15+ years ago, and a good friend went to her about 5 years ago. We both went to deal with family issues. She is fantastic.

She needs to see if her employer has an EAP. If they do....she can get several free sessions with a therapist. I get 8 free sessions with mine a year. Per problem. So I could go to my therapist for family issues...8 sessions free. Go to a therapist for another issue....another 8 sessions. Great resource that a lot of employers provide that many aren’t aware of.

How does she find out about this EAP thing? I don't know if she wants to advertise that she wants to seek out a therapist.

Therapists are covered on HIPPA privacy act

The EAP is usually handled by a third party and not the company- Information from the company should be on the HR website or in employee manual.

An HR employee who divulges any requests from an employee requesting EAP information- should be terminated and has placed the company at risk

Dr Sura is good but he is a Psychiatrist, not a therapist.

Dr Sura is a Psychiatrist (Yale grad I believe), who does face to face hour long psychotherapy sessions. Maybe learn about the man b4 you disparage his name.

Please emphasize to your friend to never give up on being helped. Depression is very difficult. No matter the darkness, there is hope.
I pray for your friend. One day, one hour at a time.
