I don’t know bout us, we get to sleep some if we’re not busy

Yeah we aren't allowed to sleep any while at work. You can get fired on the spot if you are caught sleeping.

That sucks. I guess it’s different for us since we are ancillary.

Yeah I think it's a crap rule as well. Part of why I left nights and the bedside.
I was starting to have a really tough time staying up all night at work. Was starting to fall asleep on the drive home(at redlights) I was so tired.
I did my BSN capstone project on the dangers of sleep deprivation in nursing. And why hospitals should allow nursing staff to use their breaks to nap if they wish. There are numerous studies that show how patient care is directly impacted by sleep deprivation in nurses. How you are more likely to make medication errors if sleep deprived. And how much a difference a short nap in your shift can do to boost your alertness.
At my hospital you are not allowed to nap at all. Not even during your lunch or other breaks. Hell...you can even get in trouble if you are caught napping in your car and you are already off your shift. Knew a nurse that would be so tired after his shift...he would take a quick 15 minute nap in the car in the hospital parking lot before he drove home so he could drive home more safely. Security caught him and he received a verbal warning about it.

At least I’m not a dumb creep.

The research I did showed that even 15-20 minutes can be enough to increase your alertness for the remainder of your shift.
Towards the last year I was on nights..I'm very lucky I didn't get caught. I was always dozing off for a few seconds while sitting at the nurse's station charting. My charge nurse caught me a few times and would just nudge me awake and tell me to go walk around some to wake up.
Hey Aspy!
I need to get on the bike and do a workout. Yall have a good one
