I got some for my mom to use when she walks, but they do me no good while riding.

He has a functioning winter coat, but peer pressure means he gets blanketed. Their thick coats puff out in the cold and trap air that is warmed by their bodies. If you ever see a horse with snow on it, their coat is functioning correctly.
Eating helps them stay warm more than anything else, so tons of hay.
