I don’t play golf and don’t really follow it closely. I had never heard of Reed before this week. Looked him up and Wikipedia says he was born in San Antonio and went to HS at University High in Baton Rouge. CBS announcers call Augusta his home town. 
By all indications he’s not well liked by other tour players or fans.
The other players call him Captain America.

I'm going with he is very confidant and expresses it too openly for the taste of some. He is nervy and seems to love the competition. I think the Captain America thing came from at least 2 things... he wears a lot of R, W, and B and he's done well in team events.
