Make sure you read your plans and specs and know them to a T. Also find out what the schedule is. If work becomes available then just schedule it. Theres always something that goes in front of you, make friends with that crews foreman and they will fix anything you need done before you have to own it.

In terms of personality, just be yourself. The problem is people try to act hard and it rubs others the wrong way. Just speak in your normal voice and be calm. Everyone can see through bullshite. Your workers want to do a good job like you do.
