Why a chocolate? They're dumb as rocks compared to yellow or black labs, hope you don't plan on hunting with it

This couldn't be further from the truth.

My parents' chocolate lab is the smartest, most obedient dog I've ever encountered. Point at her bed, she goes and lies down. Snap your finger, she sits. Waits until you tell her it's OK for her to eat. You can call her from the opposite side of the house and she'll come running to you, and you could tell her from the opposite side of the house to "go home" and she'll go lie in her bed in the kitchen.

Yeah, found the dumbass that can’t train a dog. Look, I’ve had both blacks and chocolate labs. All different personalities and quirks. All hunted their asses off and were smart as a whip.

Labs are too smart for them. Worked on mine for about a week before one of them figured out she could haul arse through it.

While you are around. Mine do everything I tell them, but party when I'm not around.

Find about a 5 year old lab so you don't spend the next few wanting to kill it

Better build a 6' or taller fence. He/she will jump over anything smaller.

We had one in Illinois and it worked well. Our first dog was an older Golden. She quickly figured it out and never tested the boundaries.

She passed and we got a Golden puppy. He wasn't as easy. He forgot a lot and it took longer for him to figure it out.

Bad news for underground fences and most Labs. They have so much energy and desire to run, they often purposely run the boundary knowing they will get a shock and don't care. They hit it and keep going. Train the dog as a puppy and make it scary as hell for him. My only advice.

Good luck!
