If she wants to unload them all an auction is about the only way to go short of hiring someone to prep and market them individually which would probably cost even more than the fees the auction houses charge.

yep, I tend to agree, as I watched them amass their collection over the years my thoughts were always that they were building a huge white elephant

I'll admit that I'm not up on high end car auction procedures, all I'm saying is that I have a friend with a car collection about the same size as Foreman's, and with on average, more valuable cars, she is looking to downsize and has dealt with B-J quite a bit and says it's not worth their fees to try and sell them through them, she's a smart business woman, I'm assuming she knows a lot more about that than me

There are other expense people forget about.

Main one being transportation. You can't just jump in and drive the car there. If you can drive it there, it's probably not Barrett-Jackson quality. Not saying they don't have cars other than museum pieces, but you don't want highway speed road dings on a car you're trying to sell as an exotic or classic.

You either have to trailer it there yourself, or hire a specialty car hauler, and those ain't cheap. Those guys have special haulers and off the charts insurance premiums, and they still have to make money.

exactly

a specialty car hauler,

she's got a couple of those, but she wouldn't be doing the driving, a lot of expense in just staging the vehicles for show

off the charts insurance premiums,

this too

I was talking to another friend about getting an old muscle car and how much they've gone up, he said we should go to B-J and look at the "thursday night cars"

I would go to Mecum. They have a lot more "drivers".

Like I said earlier in the thread, people go into idiot mode at B-J. A lot of that has to do with the class of buyers. At B-J you have a whole lot more guys worth 8 and 9 figures to the left of the decimal.

Allan Jones was once bidding while in the air on his private jet on the way to B-J in Scottsdale. Even the announcers were like, "what would it be like..."

Those guys don't even care about paying more than it is worth. They care about getting what they want.

yep, and then they get stuffed into a warehouse/garage and just sit, my friend was at one of their auctions a few years back and her niece and her husband went along, my friend bought a Lambo for her husband, the niece's husband bought some limited production, either a '67 or'69 Camaro, thing is beautiful, the guy splits time between Philadelphia, Rome, and Sydney, and had no place to put it, it sat with her collection for several years until he finally remembered he had it and asked her if she would do something with it for him

I haven't watched BJ in a quite a while but the problem I saw was if you didn't get a couple guys in idiot mode on your car they didn't sell for market value.

Especially after BJ took their cut.

eta-There is some shop that specializes in 50's Tbirds and I saw a few of their cars go for prices well under what they were expecting as an example.

Well known Tbird specialist and their cars always bring top dollar.

I was gonna consider buying one of those to add to my collection and then i remembered that not only, do i not have a car collection, but also, can’t afford any of the ones shown so that eliminates that problem for me
Well, at least you’re you and you….

I’ve had boats aplenty and one old car.
I can afford either now but I’ve reached the point where I’d rather rent them now.

I have an old bike, it is easily looked after.
