Gator bites toes off man bathing in retention pond

A homeless man bathing himself in a Port Charlotte, Fla., retention pond was attacked by an alligator Monday morning, WINK-TV reported.

The man, named Frederic Iman, sustained multiple bites to his left foot, leg and groin area. A witness who called 911 to report the attack said the gator had bitten Iman's toes off.

Iman, 68, walked to a nearby surgical center, but had to be airlifted to a full-service hospital. Authorities said his injuries were not life-threatening.

A nearby resident, Ron Theisen, told WINK-TV the 9-foot gator responsible for the attack was one of several that live in the pond.
