I’m sure this video inspires you to go watch those skilled craftsman build timeless homes just as they did in this video, lol.

I was for a few years, but moved back to Baton Rouge because my wife's family is here. We're hoping to move back over there again at some point.

I really want his Hitachi planer. Those Japanese fixed knife planers are incredible. Nothing I can't match with some elbow grease and a smooth plane but jeez I want one. The larger 100s I have found over the years tend to be basket cases or priced in the stratosphere.

Are you using one of the Euro machines?
But yep, the old Lie-Nielsen #4 is my go to hand tool, along with a L-N 102 low angle block plane.
I like my helical head Grizzly G1033X but still use the smoothing plane. And my Veritas skewed shooting plane. I use those hand tools on pretty much every project.

Holy crap that’s impressive
I’m not capable of doing anything like that crazy prep and planning needs to
Go into that.
That’s a home build like by a woodworker who builds fine furniture but it’s an entire house

No, my jointer is a 5 HP 3ph DD Northfield No. 12 24" pattern makers jointer and my planer is a 20 HP Oliver 2279 36" planer. It came with an ITCH head and has been replaced with a Byrd. 444 knives on that puppy, takes most of a day to turn and torque them, I am going to cry when I have to replace them. The jointer has a 4 knife head but it has a grinder and jointer attachment that makes keeping the knives sharp easy.

I prefer the Veritas 164 1/2 bevel up smoother followed by a card scraper at least until my fingers give out. I really want to find a scraper plane that works for me but I have always found them too fiddly.
The Euro combo machines from SCM and Felder are great if you are space limited, especially their 5 in 1 machines. If you have the space I always prefer separates.

You're running some big stuff. I have separate planer and jointer, both Taiwan machines and helical head. Both good for what I need.
I've never used a Veritas bevel up smoother, I do have a Veritas LA smoother but I don't use it that much. I'll have to look into a bevel up.
And that reminds me. I need to burnish some of my card scrapers.
