I recommend John Sandford with his Prey series.
Just finished my first one this week and it started slow, but finished as quick as me in bed

I've read this whole series. Loved it.
If you haven't read Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series start that one. Just got the new one and am really liking it so far. Written by a different guy since Flynn died recently, but the new guy is doing Rapp justice.
Also, try out the Camel Club series by Baldacci.
Really can't go wrong with any Baldacci.

I have to say I won't be starting another "new" series now that I've read a JS book. I'm going to start from the first one he wrote in 1989 Rules of Prey

You bet. I think I'm going to go back and re-read The Alienist by Caleb Carr. Supposed to be making a tv series out of the book that will be written by Carr. Very excited about that.
