Three things:

If a shirt gets wrinkled, put in the dryer on low for ten minutes and be ready to take it out and hang (Hint from my maid back when I was in Houston.)

Not all fabrics are equal, the weave of the fabric will make a major difference in lifespan of the fabric. (Hint above about no zippers or anything else metal in the drying is important.)

Air dry is kinder to all fabrics. If you deal with spills, clean them before laundering before working detergent into the fabric back and front and follow the warp and weft of the fabric or the knitting direction to get the detergent into the weave.

Your shirts should never see the dryer. That’s why they’re frayed.

Especially dress shirts.

Engineering professor told us one day "worse thing you can do to a shirt is wash it".
