Try not to let him be released to a nursing home if you can possibly help it, home hospice care, the nursing home will literally kill him
have sad experience with that ourselves this past year, they killed my MIL after no one was allowed to visit her for a month
Then they were jerks about it
My grandmother broke her hip at age 89. The worst risk if they survive the initial shock of the fall at that age is pneumonia from prolonged inactivity. She got the pneumonia and was so tough she survived having it for a full year and a half. Then she fell and broke her other hip and that did her in. But she stayed out of the nursing home, which was what she always wanted, and was lucid and talking right up till the last day.

Dad did that in his early 90's and it was completely healed in 6 weeks. Hospital stay was only a week
