Two days is all I would do at Stone Mountain. They have plenty of lodging price points. The Village and Laser Show is good for a full day. There are ropes courses for kids in the village along with a play barn. But unless you are there for a business convention or to enjoy a multi day golf outing, two days is plenty.

All great suggestions. I've been to Stone Mtn a time or 2.
Looking at cabin rentals on and around Lake Ouachita now.
Who knew R-Kansas could be so pretty? Lol

Did San Antonio last summer to change things up. It was a good change of pace. Stayed in Marriott on the river walk. We did the Alamo, Sea World, river boat ride etc. AND did it for a hell of a lot cheaper than the beach. My kids were 1, 9, and 13 and all enjoyed...especially Sea World. Wanted to go to Schilitterbahn, but missed it because of rain. Sea World has a large kids play area that was very entertaining.

When I was a kid about that age we went to Callaway Gardens in Georgia a lot. its just south of Atlanta. You rent cabins that are equipped with a few bedrooms and full kitchen in the woods. You drop the kids off at camp all day and adults go do their own thing. I loved it as a kid. There is 3 nice golf courses, lakes to ski/tube on, circus, hiking. link below.

Note: I haven't been there in probably 15 years.

Three to five day rafting trip through the grand canyon - incredible _ depending on size of 8 year old - it can be done if he likes to camp
