My F150’s dash gauge stays on E, regardless of how full. Says zero miles to empty.

Mechanic thinks it’s the float in the tank that needs replacing and said it’d cost roughly $1,000 because you have to drop the tank out.

This sound right

The same thing happens to a Silverado if you overfill the tank. Mine did the same thing and it is finally back to normal after a year.

This got me thinking. You could do a computer reset which will recalibrate everything. Google how to do it. At least do that much effort.

Fill up and park somewhere steep.

I know how many miles my truck gets per tank. I just reset the trip meter after filling up. Drove like that for years

I had an emissions sensor go out on mine and had to get it changed to pass inspection. They had to drop the fuel tank to change it and do some kind of software update. It was $1000-1100 or so.

Agco did it for me, and they seem like good, honest people. Didn't try to sell me a bunch of BS I didn't need. Clearly, detailed billing. I'd use them again.

My mechanic quoted $300 for mine. And that's including the fuel pump and filter that it's part of, might as well change the whole thing while in there. I haven't had it done yet, I just fill up and keep track with the trip odometer so I stay near full. Screw a gasoline gauge.

I would just reset the odometer at every fill-up. I average over 600 miles per tank so if this happens to me I'll know I'm good for at least 600 miles. I would probably fill up every 500 just to be safe.

My son and I, he is over fifty, replaced the float in my 2007 Nissan Frontier.
I'm confident there is an instruction of the procedure on Google.
