Updated OP...crazy the number keeps rising as more details comes out.

Still no one claiming this attack..

Turkey probably hopes no one does so they can blame the PKK.

If the story is true that these guys were spotted and were confronted outside the terminal, it puts a lot of doubt about the idea of moving security outside the terminal being worth a frick.

They can move the checkpoint.....but they can't change the fact that regardless of where they put it, there will be unarmed, unchecked people waiting to get through it. It's just moving the target around.

In that video seems like the terrorists got picked off by someone with a gun....seems like if that person isn't there many more get shot in that area.

This is awful. It would appear security prevented this from becoming a worse tragedy.

Sadly, I doubt the world will ever be free of this kind of stuff.

It may not be who you assume. There are a lot of issues with Kurds there and some are quite radical.

Yep. The PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party).

Although I think this is the work of ISIS, we shouldn't rule anything out. Even though the PKK, to my knowledge, has never targeted westerners, there is a first time for everything.

True, however, just to be clear, you aren't advocating that the people waiting in line should be armed, right?

That's hard to determine. How many more could have died inside?

If it were folks like you and I, that would be fine with me.

What I meant by that is, after Brussels, there was a lot of talk of doing what airports like IST do, have security outside the terminal. What many people commented was that creates another chokepoint anyways. The "positive" was if a bomb exploded outside, the explosion wouldn't be confined by walls, ceiling, and would lessen the effect somewhat.

It just sucks that if this is really up to 50 deaths, we have to take it as a "win" that it wasn't higher by being inside the terminal, and that's just a big bummer.

There still might be some benefit to having it outside. Easier for the crowd to scatter, explosion wouldn't be confined in an enclosed space, etc.

I'm listening to a woman on CNN radio right now and she's saying an ISIS spokesman was calling for more attacks during Ramadan. My question is how the hell is there an ISIS spokesman??
