=Left(cell,# of characters)

There are a number of ways to do this. I use =trim(left(A1,find(" -",A1,1)))
A couple of others mentioned work too. Trim just helps in case you end up doing a lookup from another database that might not be formatted the same.

this worked as well, however i had to add an "iferror" to it just incase the " -" didn't exist. that would be due to a human error typo.

Step 1: use the FIND operator to obtain the location the hyphen
Step 2: Use the LEFT operator to return the number of characters from step 1
