I climbed my big arse up one a couple of weeks ago to look at an antennae array on it. Have done it several times. Most of them are fenced in and its probably a serious crime to climb one now but I imagine back in the day it was common.
I climbed to the top of the off gas stack at Browns Ferry (about 600 feet) back in the early 90s. There is a ladder with a platform about every 100 feet or so. That was a climb.
I climbed the wind turbines at GTMO twice each. About 300 feet. This is an internal ladder with a platform about every 50 feet. View is spectacular from the nacelle.
By far the worst was climbing 2100 feet out of a salt mine when the lift shut down. This was a stair and ladder combination. It was a hellish climb.

public one or been up one?
There's one about 5 miles south of Butler Al, in Choctaw county. Used to climb it often. Pretty sure it's not fenced up. First time up was to view Halley's comet in 1986.

quote:Beautiful lake.... I went to Smith Lake this summer, also beautiful but more of a river shape than a lake. Both crystal clear beautiful water.
I've climbed the Smith Mountain fire tower at Lake Martin many, many times. Actually got some shots of it from the water a week ago.

no, but I've climbed a few water towers. Cops were called on us on the second one.

This looks like the first deer stand my dad put me in solo. 8 years old. “Here son, take this .300 mag, climb up in that tree and sit. We’ll be back to get you in a few hours.”
