While I agree New Orleans is the birth of jazz, etc. Blues was created in the Mississippi Delta. (I do understand that Blues came out of Jazz.)
Lets also not forget that Shreveport had the Louisiana Hayride which was extremely influential on musicians. Don Henley of the Eagles states the Hayride was a huge influence on his writing. Henley grew up in East Texas.

Absolutely.
Buddy Guy & Lead Belly are two of my favorites. Lead Belly actually did time in Angola. Doesn't get much more Louisiana than that...

Mississippi was the home of Jimmie Rodgers. The first American music superstar and considered to be the father of country music. No one had such a big impact on the Blues during his time. Artists such as Elvis, Ronnie Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, Hank Sr. and other stars have drawn influence.
