yeah and so is cocaine, good try, bud.
So what's your point?
There are a lot of drugs in the class II category... But they have different pharmalogical effects.
You do know what these schedule categories means right?

At what point does being a terible athlete become a disease? I wasnt very good at basketball because my symptoms of not being strong or fast enough prevented me from competing the same. So i took HGH and my WHITEMANACANTAJUMP disease symptoms went away and i saw immediate improvements

When everyone has to be an athlete. By the way, we established ADHD isn't a disease on page one.

I agree.
ADHD is as much a sham as the fictional porn addiction discussed here last week.

I'm just humoring you. That's a terrible analogy. Everyone is forced to go to school. Getting glasses for near-sightedness to help with learning is a better analogy btw.
I could ace any test in school, but couldn't focus enough to do homework. I failed a couple high school classes with A/B test averages for that reason. Luckily that was after I had already skipped 11th grade. What's so terrible about medicine anyway? I'm pretty sure no one argued that all 4 year olds need stimulants.

quote:I do not disagree with you in the fact that the medicine works. It does. 100%. But i think starting children at a young age to take medicine to mask deficiencies(whether learning, athletic, etc) is a very slippery slope. As others have said, we are attacking the "symptoms" and in no way addressing the problem

My point is cocaine is classified as a stimulant, as well as a narcotic. Amphetamines are a stimulate and are not considered a narcotic only because they still have "clinical uses". Narcotic is a term used to describe a substance used in violation of strict government regulation. With that being said, if you have adderall that is not prescribed to you, you have a narcotic.

Obviously. I am using it to show that cocaine and ADHD medications are classified the same (in terms of Pharmacokinetics)
Marijuana is a schedule I, therefore it is technically worse than all these drugs

So what's the problem? Too many happy meals? Not enough God in school? Pills come in fun colors? Relieving the symptoms is really all we've got.
I personally think kids should get the chance to grow and develop before taking stimulants. At least until late middle school/high school when the style of work gets more tedious. For me I held off without even admitting it was a problem to anyone until near the end of college. I don't take meds currently, but there are entire days when I'm completely checked out. Other days I make up for it and then some. As an adult I'm completely ok with the idea of having a doctor handle my symptoms again as long as there are no health concerns involved.

This thread is hilarious. A lot of you making all these ignorant statements about ADHD and jumping on this quacks bandwagon don't have kids and I'd bet non have a medical degree of even work in the mental health field.

I blame the parents who put their kids on drugs because "oh... my 7 year old cant sit still after eating pixie sticks and mcdonalds for lunch. He must have ADHD"
The doctors are cool though, right?
