Wasn't making a comparison. Only noting that these were two of the top conditions/diagnoses for SSI applications.

I read that article as there is no singular cause for ADHD. It is a spectrum disorder. His belief is to identify and treat the individual cause, and not simply the symptoms.
To say there is no such thing as ADHD is simply false. However, it is probably a manifestation of another condition.

bullshite. I am a victim of this terrible disease, which my parents neglected to treat, causing a precipitous decline in my well-being and quality of life. Specifically, I abhor tedious details requiring the expense of effort to grasp and much prefer doing what the frick I want with my time which, as a child, was running around like a fricking lunatic.

Half the kids I knew with ADD or ADHD couldn't sit still in class, but could go home and play a video game for 6 hours each night without moving.

I have taken ADD meds and I don't think it's so much a condition as it is a struggle with some people to live in a 21st century environment that they weren't made for.
I was diagnosed as an adult. I'm pretty sure this is the case. Evolution made way for the farmer types who could handle long slow tasks that translate well to classroom/cubicle environments. Others were more hunter/fighter types who benefited from jumpy attention and quick thoughts. It's more of a struggle for those types to handle modern office and school life.
People are just wired differently.

Negative. Is it over diagnosed...yes.
Do some kids have it...god yes.
I didnt believe in it, even though I had a script for adderall until my wife was watching some of her class vids while I was playing xbox. Some of those kids have astounding self control. They'll sit trying to work, and you can see the frustration on their faces.
Pointed it out to the wife as she was taking notes, she said its fairly common for parents to refuse their kids treatment because of the think it is not real. Other parents are feeding their kids pills like candy.
In one instance, the parent changed their stance and got their kid some help, miraculously he still sits there quietly, but rather than struggling to do so, he focuses on his work.
I try to zone out when shes watching her vids, I hate kids. All of them need a lot less sugar and caffiene and a lot more water and alcohol.
Edit...just to add. I have no problem paying attention when discovering, but repetitive tasks have me looking for a way out. I can read a 1250 page book in a single sitting, but 20 pages of notes...cant do it. I can design something in my head and build it out of wood, plastic, metal...and will literally work until I can barely stand up. Form stamping, or office jobs without stimulus, I get bored. I can acconplish a stupid amount of paperwork in a desk job and will be the most productive employee, but equally guarantee I was fricking off more than anyone in my own way.

maybe you should have been disciplined more and learned how to deal with it like i did.
Best cure for "ADHD" is that long walk to find a switch that you are about to get beat with, or the return trip to get a better switch after the first is refused for lack of quality. And it's free!

With all of the social programs and meds that are being prescribed, we are crippling people so much that they won't be able to "adapt" with the times...
I can't really argue with that. It's tempting as all hell to take a medicine that feels like a video game cheat code for real life. It makes so many work and home life tasks infinitely easier. But if there's a way to adapt beyond natural selection, then that's the way to go.

Exactly. Which is why it bothers me when people come on here and condemn people that legitimately seek treatment.
If you don't have it, then it is difficult to understand.
The level of anxiety while pleading with yourself to stay calm and focus. Taking 6-8 hours to even get started. It isn't procrastination. You have a want, but there is a block.
The whole man up crap is blowhard bullshite. Making all the right decisions to put yourself in the best environment, but not being able to calm down enough to focus is a terrible feeling.
Hence my doc diagnosed me with unspecified anxiety and ADHD. The ADHD meds have helped with both the focus and anxiety issues, and now I can perform at work now.

I wouldn't give my kid adderal but I'll take it. It's a legal way to get an edge over other employees. Like workplace steroids.

What the hell is the point of the grade system if we help the dumber kids to be as smart as the naturally smart kids by giving them drugs. Its bull shite that on the ACT kids that are not as smart as others and have "ADHD" get extra time and concentration drugs. Some people are just not as smart as others. Sorry

ADD and ADHD were invented by pharmaceutical companies and lazy housewives
Posted on 3/17/14 at 10:25 am to Drew Orleans
They get 1.5 amount of time on all tests and the ACT plus drugs

Every teacheri had told my parents to get me tested and get on meds and they refused. they made me sit down and do the work over and over. Now i still have a hard time doing it but i have been trained that if i dont, then the work isnt going to get done.
