I think you’re full of shite with that response. If you’re putting aside each paycheck into a mutual fund for a 401(k), you’re investing. It may not be with a financial advisor on a custom portfolio, but it’s being invested.
I agree with this. I'm putting almost 15% into my retirement. That's more investment than most are making.

It’s funny you are getting downvoted, just facts that answer the OP’s question. The numbers I found were that the bottom 80 percent own less than 8% of stocks while the top 1 percent owns 38 percent. Because no matter how you define middle class, they would fall into the bottom 80 percent. The top 1 percent own 5 times as much as the bottom 80 percent, so the answer to the OP’s question is for all practical purposes, no.

Middle class saves.
Because someone uses mutual funds in a company sponsored retirement program does not make one an investor. Middle class isn't saving enough money and can do more.
Wealthy class invests.
Imho. Words mean things.
What!! You mean to tell me you don't think your an investor if you only hold mutual funds in a 401k??
Do you know what a mutual fund consist of??? STOCKS

What percent was owned by pension funds?
What percent was owned by insurance companies?
What percent was owned by foreign investors?
