When I was a kid I was a big fan of the Dodgers and loved to watch him and Drysdale pitch. I remember in 1961 or 1962 they held out for 100K and there was a big deal made over the fact that a ball player should not make more than the POTUS. How do you think that would play today?

As another poster pointed out, he was a bit of an olive branch and more conservative than Democrats wanted but because Obama nominated him they couldn't say much. In fact they praised him highly. That would make it that much more difficult for them to protest what is effectively a somewhat conservative Justice now. And it would look like Trump is throwing them a bone when in reality he's nominating another somewhat conservative Justice.
I'm clearly in the minority with this line of thinking but I'm fine with that.
