Do you employ the ‘buy it for life’ concept for anything?

The idea that you spend more money initially for something that will probably last you the rest of your life. Or maybe that doesn’t appeal to you because you want variety.

This could apply to certain clothing items, bags, gear...just about anything where there is a high quality (but expensive) option.

Yes with most things. That’s how I justify it to my wife

You’ll always be poor if you buy cheap things.

No, because nothing is built to last anymore.. it’s intentionally made shitty so you have to spend more money

I’m tight but, when I buy something, I believe in buying quality.

Yamaha, Stihl, Honda, Toyota...

Tom Hanks did and bought that luggage for life in "Joe Vs. Volcano" and that worked out well for him in the end.

Spent $200 on golf balls earlier and justified it by telling myself they would be the last balls I’d ever need to buy

Not only can I fix my own appliances I know how to sew. If I lived 100 years ago I'd say I was buying something for life but nowadays planned obsolescence is SOP.

I'd say I buy things for a decent amount of time.

Of course. Don't we all?

The stuff I bought in 1986 is getting a bit worn.

Only toilet paper. If I can’t get 5 wipes, it’s not worth it.

I tend to buy higher quality items - convincing myself it's better in the long run. I also prefer products that are specialized vs an all things to all people approach. For example, I never buy ceiling fans with a light kit, because the light kits always suck.

It's usually cheaper in the long run. Buying high quality shoes/boots, knives etc will generally cost you more upfront but less long term
