I have for both - the latter put me in a really bad spot mentally - to the point of suicidal thoughts, but i came out the other side stronger - now i may have a drink every few months.

As I get older I have realized if I drink I go to sleep easily but wake up more in the early morning hours. If I don't drink it may take longer to get to sleep but I stay asleep.
It took me a long time to realize that drinking alcohol is drinking poison and especially bad for sleep. You may think you are out cold but you rarely ever get the REM sleep (dream sleep). I drank way too much on and off for a long time. A doctor explained it to me as the anxious feelings I had the next day are in part because you aren't getting REM sleep and you subconsciously start the beginning stages of it during waking hours. That shite is crazy not to mention extremely mentally and physically detrimental. I stopped drinking and feel like a completely different person to the point of being shocking

I'm mid 40's and starting to really notice how bad drinking affects my sleeping.
But to answer OP, its 99% drinks to celebrate life.
