The dividing line is a little bit west of Fort Worth.

Austin is more like San Francisco/San Diego culture wise.

The frick? Austin bears absolutely no resemblance, culture or otherwise, to either of those places

Texas kinda has its own thing, but I'd still consider it southern.

South Louisiana is very different as well, but still southern for sure. North Louisiana I'd group with Mississippi in that traditional south style.

I thought Texas is becoming an extension of Mexico. Isn't Spanish the first language in Texas ?

According to both the US census and American history, Texas is very much a part of the south

Frick the US Census and History

Historically, speaking I would say its more like the West (Particularly during westward expansion) than the south. During the Civil War, Texas economically was nothing like the other confederate states. They historically had a extremely small slave population.

As for the US Census South Map

That not the South as we know it. They are speaking solely in geographic terms.

A Survey to add to the conversation

Texas, Virginia, Arkansas and Kentucky hovered at about 50 percent.

quote:

Consistent with a tradition of skepticism of the federal government, the South further disagrees with the census designation of what’s in the South. In addition to Maryland, Oklahoma and West Virginia both pulled less than 25 percent support, despite the fact that the census says they’re the South. Take that, big government.

Texas is Texas. Its pretty awesome here being from LA. Can't compare it though, the cities and culture are just so much bigger than anything in LA.

Texas is southern, just not deep South.

That said I don't think anyone in my cul-de-sac is from Texas.

Do you consider Texas to be a "southern" state? Some Errors with the map Virginia - I live in Virginia its not southern anymore. If you are going to try it make it southern, you need to cut off everything east of Richmond (Including Richmond), Northern Virginia, and Random college towns in Virginia to make that case. Kentucky- It felt more like Southern Ohio than any Southern State I have been too. West Virginia- No way My Personal Definition is what the south includes- North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida panhandle, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Tennessee.

The southern portions of both Virginia and West Virginia are the South.

My map is the definitive answer and cannot be questioned.

exas pride will be considered hispanic pride before long. It's hard to consider Texas its own state/country anymore with the extreme amounts of Mexicans. They pride themselves on being there own entity and the greatest thing since sliced bread, yet the better half of the state is covered in Spanish writing.
