The Machine is real and one of the main reasons Bama Greek system isn’t attacked on the same level as other southern schools yet has the worst hazing around.

ETA

Yet still much less powerful than it once was.

The,” Machine “, at Bama are people running for student government positions ( Greeks) that fraternities and sororities tell their members to vote for. It’s not some powerful organization because 75-80% of students on campus aren’t Greek and don’t give a shite about who’s in the student government.

One of my best friends and fraternity brothers at UA was initiated into Theta Nu Epsilon(the machine). Essentially any politician from the state of Alabama that went to UA was in the machine (siegelmen, Britt, Shelby, etc. ). When they get initiated they are told which “floor” they will be on. Upstairs members are the public facing candidates in SGA, while downstairs members are the ones behind the scenes who run things/set agendas. The handlers are the ones with the real power, just like in “real” politics.

Louisiana can only dream of being as well run as Alabama.

That’s not to say everything in Alabama is just perfect, but purely an indictment on Louisiana.
