That’s completely non-true. Remember the Vichy French government was formed in Southern France and the allies had to tiptoe around this to ensure the French didn’t gain support.
During Operation Torch (invasion of North Africa), the allies weren’t sure at all how much the Vichy French army would oppose them and they thought the landings could potentially turn into highly contested bloody affairs.
Also… not to mention French resistance
