I find myself wanting to tip Subway employees more than some servers
I think I’d rather be imprisoned than do that job

Part of the issue here and throughout this thread is that you have absolutely no idea how restaurants operate
I know how they work. I don't pay them for their job. I pay them for my service. That's the point.

How is the service you’re provided in any way impacted by the service they provide someone else?
If my waiter spends their time at someone else's table, they aren't at my table. My service is likely impacted. This would seem obvious.

As I said, if this happens to you on a regular basis, your expectations are through the roof. I go out on a damn near daily basis and nobody ignores me. This isn't a thing. People don't regularly ignore customers. Not at decent restaurants.
Even today someone who is a dear friend of mine forgot they took my drink order earlier and came back out apologizing profusely for it and jokingly calling themselves names over it.. Unless you'd consider that a bad experience?

Can a restaurant that doesn’t have a drive-thru be considered fast food?
Those guys can sling some sandwiches with the quickness to be fair

No, I meant the operation of the entire outfit, top to bottom. How the pieces of the puzzle fit together and what makes the machine run. You don’t at all understand it, and that’s okay, but it’s causing some issues with the dialogue we’re having with you here.

While you’re sitting at a restaurant, you’d like your server to be standing at your table the entire time you’re there? If not, what would you expect them to be doing while they’re not at your table if all your needs are currently met?

When did I ever say this happens on a regular basis?

This was the excuse friend above mentioned. I was so confused. "Don't you want to be left alone with the company you're with..??" was my reply.

It's not my job to fix the restaurant business. It's the restaurant's job to provide the service desired for the customers they want.

You forgot to quote where I said that.

If you're talking about it on a forum like its a "thing" .. it must happen to you. It does not happen to me.
Its like the old boomers who put a stack of 1's on the table and tell you "HAR HAR I'M TAKING ONE OF THESE AWAY EVERY TIME I NEED YOU"
Bitch , I wasn't getting shite from you to begin with. I had been in the game long enough.

As we said on page like 2.. stay home? Get drive-thru? Move away? Cook at home? There are options, my friend!

Once again:

Me and my impossibly high standards wanting my wait staff to do their job to earn their tip.

Whatever makes you feel better about your tipping. You spent 5+ pages justifying something you could change about yourself..

It was a question, which is why I ended that group of words with a question mark. I asked if that were the case and if that isn’t the case, what do you expect them to be doing?

Everybody's got options. That's the point. You just don't like my options. Again, that's about you, not me.

I expect them to be available when I need them, polite, attentive, my food to be on time, my drink to stay full, and my seat to be in a comfortable location. I'm sure there are other things, but that's the majority.
And despite some people's assertions that all waitresses are the hard-workingest people ever, that isn't always the case.

Well, and despite some other people's assertions that waitresses aren't wife material, that isn't always the case.

No.
And no.

I'm sure you've got another friend.

At the very least, you can admit that your approach is disrespectful. Every time you walk into a building, you’re taking up a table that could otherwise be occupied by someone who participates in social norms. Your mere presence negatively impacts the person who is responsible for serving you because of your approach and unwillingness to conform.
You should reflect on that. It would bother me to know that I was the guy nobody liked to serve, or that I was the guy the wait staff begged the host to not sit in their section.

This is a strange hill to die on.
How often would you say you didn’t experience service worthy of a tip?
