I was in high school. Independence Hall. We snuck in without paying, it was pretty easy to do back then.

My Dad told me the other day that they were headed to Nola to watch him play (possibly a day or two before) when the news came out that he had died.

Cray.

My dad did in Memphis. Coolest part, his grandmother stood in line outside in the cold to get tickets. He talks about most of it but doesn’t remember what he played. I’ve looked for years for a bootleg. I did get him live at Berkley on blu ray and cd.

Gregg Wright played a free concert at the LSU student union in 1977. He played a regular Strat upside down and left handed like Hendrix, and did the songs Jimi played, along with Blues songs. The black & white picture in the top right corner may be from that concert.

quote:

"Gregg Wright is in the top echelons of the world's great guitarists!" according to the international publication Blues Matters. Inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2013, Wright is an electrifying performer whose other-worldly guitar playing and deep, soulful vocals, leaves audiences breathless! “Gregg Wright has an extra gear most guitarists don't have." raves award-winning Bluesman Zac Harmon. With years of touring with Michael Jackson, Mick Fleetwood and a host of top tier music artists under his belt, Wright has developed a cool but killer stage presence. He may initially come off as "Mr. Smooth" but he'll be on your jugular in an instant and without warning, like a lion pouncing on its prey.

quote:

An '80's move from Louisiana to Los Angeles saw Wright become a session man and "hired gun" touring guitarist. His reputation grew over the next decade doing albums and tours with Mick Fleetwood, Michael Jackson, the Gap Band, Berlin and Spencer Davis.

Hendrix restrung his guitar

Surf guru Dick Dale, however, did not. He simply played a right handed guitar upside down.
