Degenerative disc disease and a single bulging disc are not the same thing.

Not a disease per se. Any back abnormality, whether from ok'd age, natural wear, or traumatic injury can fall under this label. It is very misleading

And it's shocking how many of these unfortunate souls eventually find themselves in rear-end accidents at less than 10 mph, or trip and fall accidents

Your doctor gave you a diagnosis, and you think so little of him that you come to the OT to see if he's making shite up? Why don't you go see a different doctor?
