Unions didn’t want NAFTA IIRC. So I’d say no.

I know unions are evil here, but it doesn’t change that corporations, boards, and shareholders will gladly send jobs overseas to make a better profit margin.

You can't be serious. Why do you think so many ex-pat automotive manufacturers did this exact thing?

No. Corporate greed plain and simple.

X% profit was no longer good enough when all you had to do was partner with a company in China and increase you profits by xxx%. And our elected officials was in bed with all of these companies getting their handouts. Trump is starting to slap these hands.

There is plenty of non union competition in the US if that is the route a company wants to go.

Yes and No. It depends on the industry too. For some industries, energy and material costs are the largest expenses. It makes sense to make textiles in Asia but it might not make sense for petrochemicals and advanced machinery to be made there.

Capitalism will always chase the cheapest labor, the cheapest materials and the least regulations. Now it is chasing to robotic labor to replace humans.

It is the nature of the beast. If you don't like it adapt or move to Cuba. Due to political lines, cultural differences, resources, priorities, and tax differences there will never be a perfect free market economy.

Agreed. But, I don't blame unions for not accepting $10 an hour. Can't compete with Mexico and Chy-na at some point.

They serve their purpose but are old and should be retired. In bad times wqs when they are good. Without them we wouldnt have hardly any protections and we would be 3rd world. The "working" class wouldn't have existed without some of the stuff unions did to protect workers and get them a fair wage.

Notice I say did* they can go away for all I care but I don't think they should be banned. Should just be pointed out that they are basically a tax these days.

Everything from the EPA, bean counter CEOs, the advent of the container ship industry, and pure unadulterated greed played a part. Unions may have been an easy excuse, but what about all of the non union jobs that were moved overseas? Look into what labor costs in China and tell me you would want to work for that, union or non union? Like I said, unions were for the most part just an easy excuse for corporations to sell out the American worker.

They are the reason US automakers aren’t competitive. They keep other major industries from being better able to compete on a global basis and have caused jobs to shift overseas. Most importantly, they no longer serve a purpose.

Unions certianly played a roll but regulation and taxes are likely more to blame.
