Also, just curious, where do you divide the odds? Where do you take the chance? Where do you not?

I get others may not understand. It's fine though. They don't share my personal experience with it and don't see all these crazy genetic disorders at work. Seeing all that can go wrong with a child makes you have a sort of paronoid knowledge. I have to remind myself that I'm seeing the exceptions at work and that most children are very healthy.

I'm trying to convince my husband to get genetic testing himself. His dad was just diagnosed with prostate cancer....

That might be taking it a bit far when deciding on whether or not to have a baby.

Being that he has it in two consecutive generations, he should definitely start regular screenings early on.

Les as corny as it may seem, I think my faith in God calmed every fear I had concerning this.

That has nothing to do with us having a baby.

He's a guy though and being a typical guy about the whole thing. I know he is freaking out about his dad right now but quickly changes the subject when I try to talk to him about it. It's very awkward at his parents cause no one will talk about it. I want to ask his dad how his radiation treatments are going but am scared what uproar that will cause with them.

that's actually one of the reasons i dont believe in any god. All these poor children that have to suffer with these things.

Do you think he decided to bless you with a healthy child, but not your mother?

No Les, my faith wasn't if he was going to give me healthy baby or not, it was faith that he wouldn't give me anymore than I could handle.

I think you're doing the right thing nurse. If I were in your shoes I'd have genetic testing done too to make sure that I have peace of mind and that my chances of having healthy children are better.
