Juneau. About 220 miles north of K'town.

Awesome. We're looking at ditching the Puget Sound for COLA reasons and that's on our radar.

It's a neat place to live. Juneau. Don't like Ketchikan as much.
Juneau is spread out quite a bit. I live on Douglas Island, which is across the channel from Downtown.

I worked in Ketchikan in a summer the 90s before the Salmon population crash. It was a really interesting experience overall. Lots of college kids, guys with questionable green card status, migratory blue collar types, and some local poor all working side by side.
The local Salvation Army type facility would obviously not want for potential beneficiaries from what I recall.

Yeah, it's more blue collar than Juneau or Sitka. Used to be a pulp mill own but logging has been all but shut down. It's not my favorite town in Ak.
I much prefer Sitka which is roughly the same size, population wise.

Understandable.
Geography was the only good reason I could ever see for all the cruise ships stopping there. There were a few junky tourist shops for the cruise ship passengers but compared to Alaskan wilderness or a proper city it just didn't have much to offer.

Proximity to Misty Fjords was originally a big draw

Does it still feel blue collar? I prefer Tacoma to Seattle and Oakland to SF if that makes sense.

Yeah it does, as does the Mendenhall Valley in Juneau. The lines are blurred here because people dont put a lot of stock in social classes

I don't either. I just feel more comfortable among my fellow broke-arse peeps.
