The philosophy is more about $$$. They don't call it the prison industrial complex for nothing. The true source of the downfall of this country is greed. Amongst the citizenry, corporate culture, and political leadership. It reinforces itself at all levels. But that is a logical progression in a society conditioned to worship at the altar of rampant consumerism/materialism. But I digress.
