I opened a PenFed acct back in January after reading about it on here. Figured it would come in handy for my next mortgage or car loan. I'm starting to shop a little for a vehicle and I went to PenFed's site and they are offering .99% on new purchases. I just clicked a few times to see what the process was and was expecting to just see if I was approved. Next thing I know it's 3 days later and I get a 30K check in the mail from PenFed. Kinda scary how easy it was. I haven't even decided on a vehicle but the check is good for 90 days so we'll see how it goes.

Don't know where you work but I keep a minimal amount in the Houston Federal Credit Union that I joined decades ago when I worked for Fluor Daniel for just this purpose.

I financed a 2015 vehicle last summer at 1.9% with a credit union. They're picky, but as long as you have good credit and as long as you know the CU you should be fine. It also helps to bank with a CU prior to applying for a loan with them.
