They can still cause issues if they aren't impacted. The crowding can cause all of your teeth to shift. It may be more difficult to clean way back there which can lead to decay. Headaches can still be a symptom.
The main reason is to avoid all of your teeth from shifting which can cause all kinds of problems.

Depending on where you go it can be anywhere from 250 - 400 per tooth without insurance....maybe even higher.
The city where you get your work done really dictates prices.
The oral surgeon I worked for only used local anesthesia. General will run you higher and IMO is unnecessary unlesss you're a complete wimp.
eta - Recovery time is just a few days really but it all depends on the case and your ability to heal.

My trick for dealing was letting frosted flakes soak in milk for 2 hours in the fridge.

Mine were big as wolves teeth.
No room.
Had them done one a time. Two days later, did not notice. Went easy the entire process.
Big and sharp.
Shifting as noted above was predictable.

Got all mine out when I was 18, did a squat workout 2 days after surgery since I was powerlifting.

I had mine taken out 2 at a time over 2 calendar years, so there was no cost other than $100 deductible.
I followed the recovery instructions to the letter. I had them removed on a Friday, did not get out of bed Saturday or Sunday and returned to work on Monday.

As a dentist, this is what I see.
Recovery - Woman 20 minutes
Recovery - Man 2 days
Dry sockets from spitting too damn much or smoking - 2 weeks
cost $140 each
xray $90

I'll never get rid of my wisdom teeth. They are not impacting and I keep them clean.
