I want to go backpacking in Yellowstone but I need to shell out for a .44 mag to feel even halfway safe with all the Grizzlies up there.

When I lived in Alaska as a teen, one of my best friend’s dad was a bear hunter. One day one of our other friends asked if he could go bear hunting, said he would borrow his dad’s .44 Mag. My friend’s dad told him the only thing it would be good for is to shoot his hunting partner in the leg so the bear would eat the partner while he got away.

Revolvers are awesome

Nah, they're antiquated relics and are just objectively worse in the field than any 1911 style pistol.

Revolvers can be antiquated and awesome at the same time. And the antiquated part is some of the charm.

If I was a cop and given a choice I’d carry my Glock 20.

To each his own. As for me, my daily carry is a Charter Arms .44 Spc. It’s light, easy to conceal, packs a devastating punch, especially with Hornady Critical Defense hollow points, and virtually 0% chance I’ll have to deal with a stoppage at the worst possible moment imaginable.

I’ve never shot a 44 special. I carry a .38 spl snubnose usually. But I’m not a cop, and if I was I’d want more than 5 rounds.

Just playing around at the range, my favorite gun to shoot is my 357 revolver. It’s a Taurus bc I’m poor but it shoots nice.

My next gun will be a 44 magnum.

A revolver works every time unless there is a bad load so your statement is pretty much incorrect.

10MM is a good alternative. Much lighter than the big iron.

Taurus makes some good revolvers. They are both meaty and beefy.

It’s very similar to a .38 in size. My wife carries a Ruger SP101 .38 Special. I’ve compared them for size and weight. They’re almost identical in size and weight.

Ruger SP101

Charter Arms .44 “Bulldog”

The .44 recoil is a little bit more than the .38. But it’s not by much. Really the only downside is it’s difficult to find .44 Spc. Ammo.

I understand it quite well.

9mm: 160 db
44 magnum: 165 db
11.5" bbl 5.56: 170 db

My point is that the argument that cops use the 9mm because of lower decibels is moot when the AR15 they carry in their vehicle is 10 decibels higher, which is much greater than 5 decibels higher. You know , since it's a logarithmic scale and everything.

So, tell me you don't understand decibels without saying you don't understand decibels

How does this shoot, particularly the trigger? I ask bc I’ve only ever shot one snubnose, and it’s the one I sometimes carry. But I struggle with the long heavy trigger pull. So I wonder if it’s my gun or just the nature of the beast. I have the Taurus 605 poly protector, looks like this.

We are carrying at least 20lbs around the waist than we used to, and we're worried about the weight of rounds?

I have a short barreled .500

It's not THAT bad.

I would imagine the .50 is much milder.

Did you watch the video I posted in the link? That is exactly how it is firing a Desert Eagle .50AE WITH TWO HANDS. I never even thought of trying to fire mine with one hand. I assume my arm would go a couple of feet up, considering the muzzle lifted my wrist a good 8 inches with a tight grip with two hands.

I let a whole bunch of people shoot my gun, and nobody enjoyed it or wanted to keep shooting it. Only reason I sold it was because it was EASILY the most impractical firearm I have ever owned. Muzzle flash is insane, recoil is ungodly, you need to hands like Andre the Giant to grip it comfortably, it's very heavy...UNLOAD, I never met a woman who could even pull the slide to even chamber a round, and who needs to take down two elephants with one shot? All that being said, it is an accurate pistol and well made. If you want something dead, this gun will make it happen.

I'm a bit lighter than I used to be.

When mountain hunting I carry a 10MM Glock 40 in a chest holster. I used to carry a 7" 44 mag Ruger Super Redhawk on my belt. Life doesn't have to be a struggle.
