Loved the old Z cars. I had a 280ZX Turbo in '82 and a 300 ZX Turbo in '84. The 300 was one of the first "talking cars" and one of the first with digital dashboard display. Loved that car. I think it would still hold up well today. I don't like the current Z cars - they look like Porsche 911-wannabes.
There were a good selection of nice sporty cars in a reasonably affordable range back then - the ZX, Vette, Mustang, Camaro, Mazda RX-6, Toyota Supra and Celica, Homda Prelude...

Pre-WWII cars just don't excite me though.

They didn't excite me much until I drove one. The big Buick model 90 has a straight 8 and will cruise at 75 all day long and rides as smooth as any car on the market today. The back seat is giant - tons of room and a chrome rail behind the front seats for blankets (a 30's heater won't keep that big interior warm when it is below 40 degrees).

The 39 Buick is a real gangster special, though the 32 Model 90 runs smoother.

I always liked the Monticello I think it was called with the rear window that slid down.

The post WWII cars will always have some propping up because the late 70s and 80s cars are generally shitty.

Some of those early to mid 90s Japanese muscle cars: the 300ZX, the 3000 GT, and the Supra are going to command big money.

But the late '70s through '80s cars are shite. Even the Corvettes were ugly and very weak by late '60s or modern standards. I have a hard time believing anyone is ever going to pay '70 454 Chevelle money for an IROC-Z or Fox Body Mustang.

The only cool American car from that era was the Grand National. Annnnnnd the proof is in the pudding/ Grand Nationals command huge prices these days.

Those early '90s 5.0s made all of a whopping 205 hp. LOL. The 4 cylinder version made 88. EIGHTY EIGHT. God, that's so bad.

If it's cool enough for the tool man, it's cool enough for me.

SE AZ has to have the highest concentration of Aztek's on earth. It's super weird. I see at least 3 or 4 daily.

I thought the bruthas would be all over the Aztek. That said I wouldnt think there would be many in SE AZ but its been a while since I lived there.

I prefer the previous generation Rivieras. Not a fan of the boat tail.

What do you mean by "not well known"? Do you consider a Sunbeam Tiger to be not well known?

DeTomaso Pantera. Volvo P1800. Jensen Interceptor. Dodge Power Wagon.

The last of the big boys. All steel. 5 series berlina had already become plastic this year (1996), only the touring survived for this last iconic year.

I've had two Jensen Interceptors - one with the Chrysler 383 and one with the 440. Other than the steering can be a little vague, great cars with that huge ladder frame.

I missed buying a Sunbeam Tiger for next to nothing - which sure as hell isn't going to happen today. The Tiger and the Interceptor benefit greatly from having American power trains.

Yea, I know. Picked up a nice 71 Interceptor for $10k (which was a good price then) and the man had a very clean Sunbeam Tiger (which can have rust issues) for $5000. I got rid of the Interceptor a long time ago. I can still kick my own arse for not picking up the Tiger. It was probably worth $15k then, be worth a lot more now.

For those who might not know, the Sunbeam Tiger is a Sunbeam Alpine with a Ford 289 in it (photo is from the net).

In the late 80's and early 90's, you could pick up the European cars with American drive trains for good prices. Can't do it any more, though the Jensen Interceptor (luxurious competitor of the Aston Martin with a Chrysler drive train) is still not too bad considering its full leather interior and wool carpet.

A Facel Vega, Sunbeam Tiger, and Pantera are selling for big money now.
