KitchenAid Washer
Mod# KAWS750JQ0
Washer filled with water, then has an electric hum, but the agitator motor does not kick on. After about 10 seconds the humming stops and nothing happens from there.
Started washing clothes yesterday and had to bring them to a friends house to finish. By the time I got home after the SB, the washer apparently cycled and drained.
Tried this AM, and everything appears to function as it should, aside from the agitator working. Apparently it did at some point while I was gone yesterday evening. I would assume the motor or whatever it's attached to needs to be replaced. Looking to see what it might be and what it might cost.
Thanks OT.
Update:
Washer will spin, but will not agitate.
Took the sides off and ran it without water, skipping the part where the machine filled. When it should be getting into its cycle, it makes the normal sound but it also has a click. It appears that something that should be getting caught to turn the agitator is not catching. It's a direct drive agitator and the clicking is coming from under the tub. Nothing is spinning on the underside that is visible, it's obviuosly working within the motor and transmission.
Update 2
Replaced the coupler. Spun and agitated for a few seconds, now when I set it to spin or agitate I get the electrical hum of the motor but nothing turns.
I'm doing this in my garage running it dry, should I rehook up to the water and let this mofo run?

Had the same problem twice. The first time, the belt old belt had stretched and popped off. The second time, the belt had snapped in half. Pop off the front and look at it. It's usually an easy fix if it will not spin.

That would've been my guess too, but the motor itself isn't even turning.

Might be zeros instead of Os.
That was it. Fixed, thanks.

There are some plastic 'dogs' inside the agitator... probably wore the frick out.

YouTube has many good videos made by professionals to help with things like this. I've fixed both a range and a dishwasher looking there. Good luck!

Took the whole thing apart a few weeks back to clean it it, they're there. They're worn too, and I planned on buying new ones and some new seals just to replace them.

Main problem is the brand of washer you have. Those things are junk!!! On the serious note, it sounds like the motor is going out on ya!!! Junk that thing and get either Kenmore/Whirlpool or a Maytag!!!!!!

Sounds like the bushing is worn out. Happened on my washer. $40 part at sears. You have to take the washer apart. The bushing is at the bottom of the spindle. It locks when the washer agitates. When it wears out, can't lock up.

You could have over loaded it, and put to much strain on the agitator, and the motor didnt have enough HP to move it.....
