Pop, because that's what it's called

How does calling it by its correct name make someone a douche? I'll never understand some Southerners knee-jerk hate for anything deemed not Southern. It's a huge country with a few regional differences in what we call some things. Don't you folks refer to a shopping cart as a buggy? I think that's kind of funny but I don't think someone is a douche for calling it that.

I grew up saying pop. Sue me.

OP missed soda pop.
I have seen graphic maps of where people use the various terms.

Usually I'll just say the brand but if not then it's either coke, soda, or cold drink.

It's a soft drink because it's not hard liquor.

The industry calls it Carbonated Soft Drinks although some of the beverage executives refer to that part of the business as Sparkling Beverages. Quite different than consumer friendly terms...
It's also silly to bundle soda with sparkling waters if using the sparkling beverage term. Sparkling waters are very different products since they contain so sugar or sodium.

How can they all be coke when that refers to coca cola. Soda or pop are the only logical answers when referring to no specific brand.

It doesn't mean they're a douche. It just shows they're a Yankee.
