There's a school of thought that Mitch really doesn't care if the statues ever come down (thats why the bid specs are geared toward making it impossible for any contractor to put a real # on the table). He's playing to his base, and if he ultimately has to admit defeat on the issue, he has strawmen he can point the finger at as to why.

Seems like a good way to piss off both sides.

Not at all. Libs only care about good intentions, not results.

from the bid documents:

REL constructed in 1883, 16.5' tall, 7000#'s, base is 68' in the air

PGTB constructed in 1915, 15' tall, 14000#'s, base is 10' in the air

JD constructed in 1911, 6' tall, 4000#'s, base is 12' in the air

for all three it just says to use "best practices" to remove, then to crate it and transport it to an undisclosed location.

there will be zero bidders on this

That's an absolutely comical spec. A 5th grader could have come up with better.

There's no doubt in my mind that this is intentional to provide Mitch with the reason these things ultimately stay up.
