Not sure how a small city on the coast of California would be considered “surprisingly” beautiful.
. Most of these entries are not “surprising”.

Although it’s waaay to much for me, I think NYC is about as pretty as a big city can be. They do a really good job with green spaces, and the urban jungle has its moments.
I’ve been to some mega cities around the world. NYC is doing a lot of things right.

Seeing Pittsburgh just appear out of nowhere when you exit the tunnel really is an awesome site to see

They say It's the only city that makes an entrance.

Pittsburgh isn't just the downtown area, there are a lot of cool neighborhoods and the old Italian (Bloomfield), Polish (Polish Hill), Jewish (Squirrel Hill), German (Deutschtown), etc. neighborhoods are still mostly intact. There actually used to be a Chinatown in Pittsburgh, but it was leveled to build the onramp leading to the Blvd. of the Allies (I always thought that was a cool road name).

Although the downtown does not have much going after dark. I always thought downtown Jacksonville was nice…enjoyed my 11 years there

Some of y’all are listing obvious ones. OP said “surprisingly”.

Tulsa - located in a more hilly green part of OK with forests and nice lakes.

Richmond VA - lush forests and hills. Lot of history also.

A city that surprised me was Cincinnati. Talk about making an entrance. I wish I could find a picture on the web that could do it justice. You’re on the interstate, crest a hill, then you see it down below across the Ohio River. It’s a sight.

Jacksonville is underrated. Especially the eastern side towards the beaches. I enjoyed Jacksonville and Atlantic beaches.

See I’ve also heard that from multiple others. I’m tempted to visit it one day like a quick weekend trip. I bet flights are cheap going there. Maybe try to catch a Bengals game.

Cincinnati. The zoo is in the middle of the ghetto, but it's a nice zoo.
