Ok that's a great doomsday scenario but why

Why would Russia or China want to take out the U.S.

First off, the odds of a war between us and China are remote. But that does not mean it's impossible. There are major differences that could lead to war. The two main ones are conflicts in the South China Sea or a war breaking out on the Korean peninsula.

Likewise, war with Russia is against the odds, although I'd say more likely than one with China. The likely sparks here would be Russian encroachment into Eastern Europe or one of the Russian's numerous military stunts going wrong and resulting in shots being exchanged.

Basically, we're the world's biggest "empire". And one thing that's been constant since the dawn of civilization is whenever a state becomes the world's dominate empire, sooner or later someone is going to come along and try to knock them down a peg or even take them out all together. This, along with conflicting geopolitical interests on the world stage are what could lead to a war with either China or Russia or even both.

Many of the things I've read about that area basically equate China to an ally of ours. In essence, the greatest defense the US has against North Korean aggression is our economical relationship with China. The argument is that North Korean aggression would pull in the US to support South Korea while China would support North Korea, and China wants no part in that squabble. The idea is that China would squash North Korea before they let those fools draw them into a war with the US.

Honestly Slack, I think China would invade NK themselves if NK ever became too unstable/aggressive towards SK.

They would see NK as having ZERO chances of winning and therefore why not take out the current commie regime before they start something too big to finish. Replacing them with another more stable regime maintaining the buffer with the rich democratic SK that China prefers.

China considers the SCS as their own private pool. I can't think that China sees us as anything more than a hindrance to their "manifest destiny" of becoming a regional superpower.

Taiwan complicates things as well

Seems like I remember reading a report that China actually has plans in place to seize power in North Korea if the need ever arises.

These are the two thing that could lead to trouble if trouble ever came.

Our satellite systems detect the launch blooms of missiles. Giving us almost instantaneous warning of a launch.

More likely scenario - when all of our satellites lose communication we'll know something big is up.

how is it adults today posting on a message board on a nice computer with today technologys dont fricking understand or know that 17000 miles per hour is the escape velocity required to reach space where ICBM's drop their warheads from.

What you stated is not factually accurate.

Escape velocity is approximately 25,000 miles per hour, not 17,000 miles per hour as you stated.

Use some common sense. If an ICBM gets to escape velocity, it would have a hard time hitting a target on earth.

I was surprised that ICBMs can go 15000 miles per hour because I have never looked into how fast they go. That is quicker than I would have guessed. I don't make assumptions on how things work without looking into them like you do.

According to what I read, this new Chinese ICBM can reach Mach 25. That translates to just over 19,100 MPH.

I don't think either of these could bring an attack on the U.S. homeland. Maybe strategic bombing of military targets but would never be an invasion by either side and a nuke is simply a "self destruct" button.

Same goes for Russia. If they made a move and pushed into Europe we would be there to help out but Russia would be crazy to try and fight anywhere but in their backyard

Mach # = velocity/sound speed. The speed of sound is less in the upper atmosphere and the air is pretty rarified so attaining those speeds doesn't cause the same problems as it would at sea level.

Just look at the HiFiRE missle and X-51 programs - air-breathing hypersonic missles in the dense lower atmosphere is still a very active area area of research partially because of the high temperature you get from air friction on the missle surface.

they are also buying up businesses and chem plants here in the U.S. Should they start selling their interest in those businesses, I'd be concerned.
