I never smoked weed, never drank much, never used any pills. Had the surgery and woke up 4 years later a drunkie and junkie. People can down vote this all they want. I was in PineGrove with good people from all over the country, this shite had ruined their lives. Now there were several little brats that were there who didn't give a frick, but most were normal people.

I don't fool with any of this stuff but was wondering if cigarettes are the real gateway drug?

Idk. Just thinking about people I've known.

There were always 22-30 people there at any given time. Drinking was the one common denominator. 14 years old was the common age they had their first drink.

One of my closest friends is a Psychiatrist and has his own practice. Most of his patients are alcoholics and drug addicts who are trying to rehab. He says people just don't become addicted from one hit of crack or meth (whatever), but it's a process of abuse that gets them to that point. They start out with weed, then pills, then needles, etc to chase the high they originally had with booze, weed, and so on. Ironically, he says many of his patients tend to blame others for all of their problems, (parents, wives, bosses, husbands).

One of his patients is a Dr., who had to go through therapy for a DUI. Turns out he was very dissatisfied with being a Dr. at a clinic and herding patients through to pay the bills and turned to booze to ease the disappointment. My friend got him in touch with a group of docs that do some free clinics that help the elderly and poor. It did him a world of good to address the root of his problem, which was his job.

Interesting.

Our church has an AA group meeting after late afternoon mass. They are ALL gathered outside smoking like chimneys. Just made me wonder.

Well most do, it's just a substitute. I gave it all up, was dipping a can a day. Went in 37 pounds overweight, blood pressure was 187 over 130. Tobacco that was smuggled in was worth it's weight in gold.
