Our plumber told us iron was the best bet, and he used to get close enough to Iraqi tanks to take 'em out with a shoulder anti-tank launcher so that's good enough for me.

I can tell you that cast iron, otherwise known as soil pipe, does not handle acid from soda well at all. Plumbers stay quite busy repairing/replacing cast iron in restaurants. Job security.
