Killers and really all mentally abnormal minds have always been fascinating to me. Especially mass killers, like the Newtown kid, Adam Lanza. I think there are definitely a lot of aspects to each of these people. You mention empathy, that is a human characteristic that is vital for our survival. People like Lanza and Anthony exhibit zero of this emotion, which is hard to understand.

Along with predisposition to mental abnormality, I think several life experiences go into each of these events. Life events that could have gone a different way, but ended up going in a direction that further cause the collapse of the person's rational mind and sense of reality. This is why I have a problem with the "innocent due to insanity" thing. Not because I don't believe it to be true, but I think that anybody who commits a crime like this is mentally unstable and "insane" in some way.

Sorry for the long post, I could talk about this kind of shite all day. Now what does that say about me....... I probably don't wanna know...
