Canon City School Board speaks out about sexting scandal

Now, the Canon City School Board is speaking out about the sexting scandal that's rocked the city's high school.

The board issued a statement Monday night.

It highlights how sexting is a nationwide problem.

Members said despite the attention the scandal has brought to the area, board members said they still love and support all the students involved.

Superintendent George Welsh said he hopes the scandal can spark change for lawmakers all over the U.S. in regards to sexting.

"I hope so, because apparently we've become the nation's poster child for a problem that's just about in everyone's community and what legislatures tend to do is to react to current situations," he said.

The school district said hundreds of students are involved in the scandal and there are several students who have been suspended, along with three phones being confiscated.
