Super easy because I am a genius. 1. 2x+$1=$1.10. Price of the ball is x. 2. Answer could be either 1 minute or 5 depending how you interpret the question, the way it is written is in clear if 5 machines in 5 minutes produce 5 widgets each or 5 widgets total. 3. Area doubles every day if the lake is full on the 48 day it would be half full the day before.

It took me awhile to figure how I was screwing up something so simple.
When you get your answer just make sure the bat is 1 dollar more than the ball. So by saying the ball is 10 cents that would make the bat only $0.90 cents more. 1 dollar bat and a 10 cents ball does equal a total of $1.10 but the difference in price is still $0.90 cents between the two.

The first one was a, well I know it's not the dumb initial reaction, so how much would the bat be if the ball were 10 cents and work backward. Not the genius method but eliminating that showed me that you have to get the relationship and back in what sets it.
No 2 you have a 1:1 machine to widget ratio that holds at 100:100 so time is same.
Exponential growth rate immediately told me not to divide anything and then made me nervous trying to do algebra after 25 years without it. But the 50% made it easy going backwards.
I'm not terribly good at this shite under pressure and without practice.

This was too easy. Can't be a real IQ test. It seems like word problem jokes, made to trick people who don't pay attention.
