The grill at a Sonic restaurant caught fire early Friday morning, causing thousands in damages, according to a release from the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

The blaze began about 5:34 a.m., the release said, at the restaurant located at 3836 Harding Blvd.

A grill in the kitchen area caught fire, the release said, but the vent above it contained the flames and prevented them from spreading throughout the building. The fire did about $10,000 in damage to contents of the restaurant, but the building itself was undamaged.

Workers were cleaning up Friday morning, however it was unclear whether the restaurant would open for business.
