It was several restaurants early on as many have noted. It sat unoccupied for a number of years before Gus bought it in late 1991.

I started there in spring of '92. Place did well for The first six months or so. Had the sports bar side with back room - which was open for lunch, and a more upscale "fine dining" side.

Lunch was always crowded, but the dinner crowd started a slow decline after the first two to three months. I remember working a Tuesday or Wednesday night when we had three tables, total.

Gus was a good guy, but he was a cheapskate and thought every head chef and most managers he hired were ripping him off. Probably paranoia from losing money in both business and making book.

He sold in early 1993 to the guy who ran the seafood buffet place in Port Allen, but that went nowhere. Then Dinardo, then Moran (I think), then I lost track.

Had a blast working there. Met tons of local BR legends. Gus was a ball breaker, but he was a good man - may he Rest In Peace.

I'm 99.9% sure he went to jail for bribing a federal judge, correct?

Well, he’s certainly qualified to work in the Football Ops building.
